The natural & textured hairstyle speaks volumes
Low key, natural and full of soft movement, it’s one of the biggest and easiest (preach!) hair trends of the season, perfect for the summer ahead. The catwalks had endless textural inspiration, from curls and waves to kinks and the slightest hint of a used-to-be-there plait. At Julien Macdonald, there was an eighties feel to wet-look, tousled ’dos; models at the Alexander Wang show rocked choppy seventies shags, while Isabel Marant girls channelled casual surfer vibes. There were hints of movement at Bottega Veneta, achieved by simply twisting hair in sections as it dried.
How to get the natural hair look
At Tome, Aveda Global Creative Director, Antoinette Beenders, created glossy, flowing manes. “The goal was simply to enhance each girl’s natural hair look,” says Beenders. She used a large, one-inch barrel curling iron to create soft ripples, rather than curls, in the hair. To get the look, hold the iron horizontally to the head, then wind strands of hair around the barrel, keeping the ends out of the way. Beender’s go-to product for this look? Aveda’s flyaway-taming Damage Remedy Split End Repair. “It gives health and integrity to the hair,” she says. Apply to the ends before using the curling iron and, as a finishing touch, work a little into the ends of the hair after styling to add separation and definition.
