Current weather situation bringing your hair game down? Take your cues from these spring trends that look modern, stylish and will survive the rain.

The classic bun

Never to be underestimated, the classic bun can lend itself to a smooth chignon but can be equally chic as a less done twist close to the nape of the neck. Brush back, twist and secure with several pins before spritzing with medium hold hairspray. A few flyaways will add to the look, not take away from it - tease some strategic ones out with a parting comb and let the humidity of your rainy day do the rest.

The updated braid

Braiding is back, and the good news is that the unperfect plait rules right now. No need for complicated styling, this one starts low at the back of a centre-parted head of hair and has a long tail with the season's most important hair accessory: a simple ribbon tied in a bow.

Still trying to heat style those natural waves? Stop right there: if there's one thing humidity does well it's give natural curls volume and texture. Tame any really wild manes (hello, Monica?) with a smoothing cream, but don't go to heavy on the product - the beauty of this look really is to let the frizz free.

The Sure Bet Wet

Really cats and dogs out there? Take an 'if you can't beat it, join it' approach and rock the wet look. High shine gels will help you achieve some gloss - take it two-texture and brush it only to half way down your hair, or get right underwater with a fully slicked do pinned into a low pony. Tip: a lived-in luxe makeup look will help carry this off without looking like you were caught unawares in a downpour (even if you were).
