FACIAL

City Recovery Facial from SkinCeuticals at Spa & Wellness at The Marker

The SkinCeuticals range, renowned as an effective cosmeceutical brand, is a new and shrewd addition to the menu at Spa & Wellness at The Marker. Therapists use a unique SkinCeuticals scanner to get an accurate reading on clients’ skin to tailor the treatment, and this treatment really stood out for its instant efficacy in correcting damaged skin caused by the environmental factors of city living like pollution, smoke, air con, free radicals and UV rays. There’s no doubt that Georgina Dempsey is someone very special. BEST FOR STYLE

The Spa at Ashford Castle

The opulent splendour of the Spa at Ashford Castle is quite simply a feast for the eyes. Last year the final instalment in the historic property’s restoration was revealed with the spa showcasing a striking French-style conservatory. It adjoins the 800-year- old castle and houses an indoor resistance pool offering views across Lough Corrib. Inside, the décor is a decadent affair with tiling and intricate mosaics that show that attention to detail was top of the agenda when planning the interior. The impressive mural overlooking the pool saw thousands of intricate tiles transported by South African ceramic mosaic artist Jane Du Rand while the chandeliers are made from thousands of tiny seashells. This is a truly special and spectacular destination that offers a visual escape but keeps within the historical leanings of the rest of the property.

HIGHLY COMMENDED

The Spa at Galgorm

Few spas in the world, never mind Ireland, can boast an entire thermal village, so the sheer size of this spa is awe-inspiring. Unique additions beyond the usual Jacuzzi and steam room offerings include a Celtic Sauna (which originates in Finland and uses towels to agitate the air so you can breathe in essential oils), a River House quiet room for meditation, and a cooling Snow Cabin, which is every bit as fun and fascinating as it sounds. The zen atmosphere is enhanced by Japanese designs such as covered wooden walkways which allow you to navigate the village with minimum fuss and maximum comfort.

HIGHLY COMMENDED

The Spa at The Kingsley

From the sad event of the extensive flooding of The Kingsley a few years ago emerged an impressive newly- refurbished hotel and well thought out spa which now extends over two floors with 12 treatment rooms. A hydropool overlooking the River Lee allows for watching the world go by as you relax, while inside the layout makes the most of the space with well spread out chairs in private clusters divided by attractive partitions which give the spa a calming, forest feel. A mention for the chromotherapy (colour therapy) room, which offers a totally trippy post-treatment spot in which to bliss out.
