THE PERFECT COVER BASE FOR THIS SUMMER
A new season means new makeup trends – but what are the trends to know now? The summer season is finally here, the sun is finally shining and with it comes the urge to lean toward a fresher, more natural complexion. Heavy winter foundations are shunned in favour of light, second-skin bases. While ashen contour powders are swapped out for sun-kissed bronzers. At the SS17 shows, artists Mark Carrasquillo at JW Anderson and Tom Pecheux at Oscar de la Renta each created their own vision of bare-faced beauty. If even the mere mention of the ‘b’ word (we mean bare) fills you with dread. Take your cue from the professionals and master the art of camouflage concealing.
Dark circles, inherent redness and niggly blemishes can all fade to flawlessness with the aid of the right concealer; just don’t try to take the ‘one and done’ approach. Ironically, layering fit-for-purpose formulations in shades that veil over imperfections, is the key to creating a wining ‘no makeup’ makeup look. Formula-wise, Pecheux used a creamy, silicone-free concealer under the models’ eyes, while a drier, more pigmented formula was employed for untraceable, pinpoint coverage, with a synthetic brush. Concealer palettes are ideal too for customised colour correction. Go green to combat redness and save salmon for neutralising blue tones and you will feel like a veritable pro. A word to the wise: remember to blend.
