Although we would love to spend our days decked out in haute couture, more often than not, it wouldn't be very practical. So, we have compiled a gallery of the ten most wearable trends from the runways this Spring/Summer.

By Rebecca Brennan

  1.  Not Just Nautical:

Surprise, surprise, stripes are in again this Spring. However, no longer just sailor chic, bold colour blocking, preppy and pinstripes variations all made an appearance on the catwalk as well.

2. Hello Yellow:

Yellow is often seen as daring and difficult to pull off but we think that there is a shade for everyone in this cheery colour. From buttercup, to mustard or lemon, we'll take ours sunny side up!

3. Slit-sleeves:

The statement sleeve is here to stay. Last year it was all about bell sleeves and now their evolution into the slit-sleeve. They can cover the top of your arms, while still adding an interesting detail to your outfit, not to mention the accessorising possibilities!

4. One Shoulder Cut-Out:

Following on from last year's off the shoulder trend, necklines are going asymmetrical this season. Despite the Flashdance flashbacks, this is one look that we won't be giving the cold shoulder to.

5. Trench Coats:

Designers re-invented a classic this season with the trench coat. Balenciaga opened the show with a leather, wide-shoulder trench, while others introduced a variety of cuts including sleeveless, dress and asymmetrical options. Wear yours in rainbow colours like at Marni, in neutral tones, off-the-shoulder and belted à la Dion Lee or go for the pleated version from Creatures of the Wind.

6. Fuchsia:

In contrast to Spring's usual pastel palette, bold, block colours peppered the catwalk this year. Paris, in particular was awash with fuchsia. This is a power hue, definitely not delicate or girly. If you are not yet ready to brave a full fuchsia ensemble, try pops of colour with your accessories, like the heels at Topshop or with knitwear and brocade jackets, as seen at Valentino.

7. Jumpsuits:

The jumpsuit is now firmly a staple, both on and off the catwalk. The increasingly popular boiler suit version was seen at Hermes, Isabel Marant and  Stella McCartney, while dungarees dominated at Chloe and a utility powersuit at DKNY. Vanessa Seward opted for preppy vibes with striped shirt jumpsuits, denim, gingham and a metallic glitter number, complete with caped shoulders.

8. Fringe and Feathers:

Jazz up an otherwise boring outfit with fringing, on denim like at Dolce & Gabbana or on jackets and knitwear as seen at Rodarte and Joseph. Or choose Prada's plumage, where the hems and cuffs were adorned with feathers. The embellishment adds movement, texture and an element of fun to a look.

9. Kitten Heel:

Love it or loathe it, the kitten heel has returned in full force. Lady-like, elegant courts at Dior and Gucci contrast with mules at Celine and strappy silver versions at Prada. While comfort is the key to these shoes, they can also elevate an outfit...even if only by an inch!

10. Mini Bags:

Small bags aren't going anywhere this season. Streamline your handbag and save your arm the workout from lugging around a bag filled with things you insist you need, even when you don't. We're so on board with the bags on a bangle à la Chloe and the attached wallets at Celine. We're not so far gone as to only require the phone case and luggage tag as seen at Louis Vuitton, but give us time, we're working on it!
