While it's great to bake at home, sometimes you just want to leave things in the hands of experts.
Maybe it's a special occasion, that first gathering of friends and family since lockdown lifted, or perhaps you just want to enjoy something delicious that you can't quite make yourself.
Well, when it comes to beautiful cakes and patisserie creations, we're happy to report that Ireland is home to an abundance of talented pastry chefs. And we've rounded up three businesses that offer gorgeous bakes and desserts for delivery or collection. (Just hide the packaging and your guests will never know.)
The artisan creations
Renowned pastry chef Aoife Noonan, who won the FOOD&WINE Pastry Chef of the Year award in 2018, is now serving up limited edition patisserie collections available for delivery in Dublin and surrounding counties.
She kicked things off with a glorious Valrhona chocolate entremet in July, followed by a box of canelés de Bordeaux in August. September's offering is a Valrhona chocolate and tonka bean flan. Priced at €45 it's available to order for September 10 and 11, with delivery to Dublin and surrounding counties.
Plus, if you’re keen to pick up some of Noonan’s skills yourself, she offers online cookery classes, which include a four-week patisserie for beginners course. See aoifenoonan.com for more.
The quirky bakes
If you’re in Kilkenny or planning a visit, make sure to pop into Cakeface Patisserie in Irishtown. It was founded by Laura and Rory Gannon, pastry chefs who honed their skills working in the likes of The Savoy and Café Royal in London.
While the patisserie offers a full, ever-changing lunch menu that includes soups, sandwiches and artisan breads it’s the beautifully quirky pastries and cakes that caught our eye.
They’re available via click and collect and must be ordered 48 hours in advance – and eaten within two days (but we suspect that won’t be a problem). cakeface.ie
The cake collection
Robert Bullock of the award-winning Le Patissier found himself adding a new arm to his patisserie company when Covid 19 hit. He and his team of pastry chefs now offer a range of cakes and desserts for purchase on the website. They include The Party Collection, €50, an assiette of 25 desserts that works perfectly for an event or small gathering, and The Cocktail Box, €35, seven desserts inspired by cocktails.
Delivery is currently unavailable but you can buy online for collection in Dublin 15 (Thursdays and Fridays). Le Patissier also creates a beautiful edit of desserts for the Dunnes Stores Simply Better collection that includes profiteroles, mousses and more.
