How To Make The Ultimate Sangria, Because You Deserve It

This sangria recipe is quick and easy to make. It’s as refreshing and delicious as ever but the best part? There's prosecco added for an extra bubbly kick.

Just as we began to pack away our summer dresses, dig out our winter boots and accept that summer was well and truly over: a mini-heatwave happens. According to MET Éireann, for the next seven days, much of the country is to bake in weather ranging from the high teens to the mid-twenties, with the midlands and east of the country getting some of the best weather it's seen all year.

With that in mind, there's never been a better time or excuse to sit outside, enjoying the warm night air with a cool, summer cocktail in your hand. But, let's face it: whipping up cocktails from scratch can be a costly headache, and do you even own a cocktail shaker?

Enter: sangria.

This is a classic wine punch you can whip up in five minutes and quench your thirst, for less than what costs for one fancy bottle of wine. Plus, nothing says summer like this light, fruity quaff. A little juice, a little fruit, and one bottle of red — and you have yourself the perfect evening to see summer 2020 off in style.

So, because we want the best for you, dear readers, we hit up the mixologist over at LIDL to discover the ultimate sangria recipe. Oh, and the best part? It contains prosecco! 

best-ever sangria recipe 

Serves: 6


  • 750 ml Red Wine
  • 100 g Blueberries
  • 120 ml Apple juice
  • 750 ml Prosecco
  • 100 g Strawberries
    hulled and sliced
  • 1 whole Orange - sliced and then quartered


  1. In a large pitcher, combine the wine, fruit and apple juice. Refrigerate for at least three hours. 
  2. To serve, pour the sangria with some fruit into an ice-filled glass, filling it about two-thirds of the way. Top up with prosecco.
  3. Refrigerate for at least three hours.
