At-Home With...Model And Influencer, Lynn Kelly

Presenting yet another reason to invest in puff sleeves…

Welcome to 'At-Home With'...our new feature series where we (virtually) get up close and personal with some of Ireland's most interesting and creative women. They each give us an honest peek into what their "new normal" looks like–from life lessons they've learned in lockdown to the beauty and health products they've been using to self-soothe.

Easing ourselves back into a social life requires careful assessment of one’s current wardrobe. Loungewear has served us well but it’s time for some much-needed style inspiration and a clothing revamp. Cue, fashion and lifestyle influencer, Lynn Kelly.

Well-versed in the world of style and glamour, Lynn is a former Miss Universe Ireland winner and still models today. Her fashion sense is feminine, flirty and sophisticated with a mix of tailored staples and one of the best selections of puff-sleeved pieces out there - trust us!

With the country slowly making progress towards a new and improved normal we caught up with Lynn to discuss all things lockdown, fashion and summer - which luckily now seems way more within reach. Out with the sweatpants and in with the summer dresses!

How are you and how have you been finding quarantine?

"To be honest, it certainly hasn't been easy. I haven't had the best luck during quarantine, my boyfriend tested positive for Covid-19 which led to some seriously scary and difficult couple of weeks. He is fully recovered now, thank god.

We also lost our beloved cat, Little Man. He had been in our lives for twelve years. Also, just to top things off, I injured my ankle while doing an at-home workout and a few weeks ago I broke my toe trying to do a Tik Tok dance - but crutches are all the rage for summer 2020 right?!

However, I am all good now though and back on my feet. I’m feeling positive and believe better days are coming."

Your style is so gorgeous and diverse, how would you encourage fellow fashion lovers to take more risks with their wardrobe?

"Oh wow, thank you! I usually just wear what I like and dress according to my mood. One day I could be in head-to-toe black and the next I'm in pastels. Fashion should be fun and is about taking risks. I do dress for comfort though, comfort above everything!"

Who should everyone be paying attention to right now?

"I'm going to change the ‘who’ to 'what’, I think the Black Lives Matter movement is certainly something people should be paying attention to. I personally have made a conscious effort to educate myself more on this subject and think it's very important for others to do the same."

How have you been staying positive throughout this period of adversity?

"I try to see the positives in every situation. I feel this time of adversity has taught me to slow down. We move so quickly in our everyday lives we forgot to stop and live in the now. Instead of always trying to capture something on your phone or camera we should try to be more present."

Would you ever consider branching out into YouTube?

"Yes, I absolutely would. Maybe in the near future."

Describe your summer playlist?

"My summer playlist consists of a lot of chilled music such as Coldplay, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Lighthouse Family and Bob Marley. I love listening to them when I am in the back garden for some major chill vibes."

Who would your dream brand collaboration be with?

"I love collaborating with brands that I truly adore and have worn for years. It would be my dream to collaborate with Primark, I actually worked there as a teenager. I was lucky enough to begin a relationship with them as a model and I now work with Primark regularly as an Influencer. I would also love to collaborate with Calvin Klein - so iconic!"

How do you keep yourself inspired to create so much wonderful Instagram content?

"I think inspiration definitely comes and goes but it's important not to doubt yourself and to stay true to who you are."

What is your secret to the ultimate glam makeup look?

"I think a strong brow is key - it completely frames your face, I use Soap Brows to set them and keep them from moving. I get my brows done by the amazing Kim O’Sullivan at The Dublin Makeup Academy. Then, to paint my face I only ever go to Natasha Ray, (@natasharayray_proartist) who is the absolute queen of skin. Flawless, dewy skin and a strong brow is the ultimate winning combo!"

The best accessory is...

"A Smile :)."

What have you learned from life in lockdown?

"To slow down, I always felt the need to be constantly busy. Also, that it is ok to say no, I often feel obliged to say yes to everything which is crazy because I would always burn myself out. Lastly, I'm clearly not down with the cool kids and should stay far away from Tik Tok."

What is your summer uniform?

"I have been wearing a lot of bicycle shorts with bodysuits and oversized shirts. I’m loving Princess Diana's 90’s wardrobe e.g. chunky trainers, big sweatshirts and bike shorts too. Oh, and puff sleeves, I love the drama they add to an outfit."
