Barbie Has Won a Fashion Award

Barbie will collect her award (unlikely in person, though watch this space) on 3 June.

Life in plastic, it's fantastic.

Despite not looking a day over 20, Barbie – the once sought after toy which has now become #woke through years of inclusion – turns 60 this year.

So, what does one get for the plastic girl who has it all? A CFDA award, of course.

Previously won by the likes of Gloria Steinem and Michelle Obama, Barbie will take home the Board of Directors’ Tribute at this year's CFDA Awards on 3 June.

“Barbie has had such a wide influence on American fashion and culture,” says Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA.

“Her story personally resonated with so many CFDA members that the Board of Directors decided to honour her with the special tribute.”

Barbie's legacy has been paid homage to in the fashion world plenty of times, with brands like Moschino, Alexander Wang and The Blonds commending her take on preppy American culture as of late.

Not to mention the flurry of celebrities who undertook a plastic transformation to become Barbie at the most recent Met Gala.
