Scalp Care is Hair Care with Aveeno®

Find the botanical blend for your hair type and feel the nourishing effects of scalp-soothing haircare.

Treat your scalp with the same care and attention you give to your skin, and it will revolutionise your hair.

For most of us, our hair care routine is something we spend years perfecting – finding the right shampoos and conditioners tailored to your hair type and needs, followed by aftercare and styling products that will help keep our tresses manageable and fresh. And while some of us may experience scalp conditions that require treatment, most of our focus is spent trying to get shiny healthy locks through good diet and the best products we can use.

But there is a missing link in our haircare routine. While we manage and protect the hair already grown, we forget that the skin where the hair is created, the scalp, should in fact be our first focus if we really want strong, healthy-looking locks. In fact, while over 70 per cent of women in the UK know that the scalp plays a key role in hair health, the perception remains that using products specifically tailored to it means sacrificing the overall quality. A new range by skincare pioneers Aveeno® is set to change all that.

With over 70 years of innovation and expertise behind them, Aveeno® has created six new haircare ranges with a tailored formula to nourish and soothe the scalp, as well as catering to individual hair types. By combining colloidal oats and botanical ingredients often found in their award-winning skincare, the collection is formulated to soothe your scalp while targeting your hair needs, leaving it looking and feeling beautiful, soft and shiny.

Rebecca Bennett, Aveeno®’s skincare expert has spent years working on scalp care. “There are around 100,000 hair follicles on the scalp each producing a hair which grows up through the scalp. So it’s really important that the scalp is clean, clear and healthy, as hair follicles which may be blocked by sebum (oil) or dead skin, or irritated in some way, and may have an impact on the quality of hair growth.” “The scalp is an extension of the skin,” she continues, “but generally doesn’t receive the same care and attention as our skin does. Additionally, anything that can cause scalp inflammation, including inappropriate products, may be harmful to the existence and well-being of hair.”

The Science of The Scalp

A healthy scalp, Bennett maintains, is the foundation for beautiful hair, with Aveeno®’s haircare clinically proven to relieve itchy, dry scalps and reduce flakes, whilst caring for different hair types and needs. The key ingredient, colloidal oat, is renowned for its skin moisturising properties with each of the shampoo/ conditioner combinations containing specific botanical ingredients to address particular hair needs. For dry or damaged hair, and an itchy, dry or sensitive scalp, there is the Daily Moisture + Oat Milk Shampoo and Conditioner, with oat milk which is rich in protein and lipids, known to be essential components for a functioning skin barrier and healthy-looking, shiny, smooth hair.

For those with fine, thin hair, the Volumising + Fresh Greens Shampoo and Conditioner nourish and soothe the scalp while adding volume to the hair. They are mixed with colloidal oats, cucumber, peppermint and rosemary extract, giving them a light and refreshing feel. There is a specific blend for coloured hair too with Colour Protect+Blackberry & Quinoa pH Balanced Shampoo and Conditioner which aims to gently cleanse and help prevent breakage and colour fade. Made with colloidal oat and wholesome, botanical ingredients, including blackberries and quinoa, a high-protein grain rich in vitamins and a greater amount of amino acids, which are well known essential components to keep hair beautiful and strong. Blackberries, rich in vitamins, are known for their antioxidant properties, widely considered important for colour protection.

If the hair is dry, the Gentle Moisture+ Rose Water & Chamomile pH Balanced Shampoo and Conditioner blend marries the colloidal oats with nourishing rose water and calming chamomile. Rose Water is naturally moisturising and has a slightly acidic pH, compatible with the pH level of hair while chamomile is widely known for its soothing and calming properties. The natural benefits of apple cider vinegar have become something of a phenomenon, and in the Clarify & Shine+ Apple Cider Vinegar pH Balanced Shampoo and Conditioner blend Aveeno have harnessed its clarifying qualities to cleanse congested hair and restore vibrancy and shine. This range is also clinically proven to relieve an itchy, dry or sensitive scalp.

Finally, the Frizz Calming+ Almond Oil Shampoo and Conditioner mixes the colloidal oats and nourishing almond oil to intensely hydrate and smooth frizzy hair and again is clinically proven to relieve an itchy, dry or sensitive scalp. Almond oil is a natural emollient rich in essential fatty acids, which are known to be important to skin and hair moisturisation, also helping to reduce frizz. “We should take the time to care for the skin on our head,” Bennett says, “hair care is skin deep, after all, and radiant, nourished hair comes from a scalp that is soothed and balanced. Until now, women didn’t believe they could achieve shiny, beautiful hair using other scalp care products, but now with this new range, they really can.”
