How do you turn a dramatic fishtail gown paired with a sheer pink overlay and neck bow into an instant red carpet hit?
With lipstick of course.
Caitriona Balfe's memorable look had everything to do with contrast. Her eye-catching dress was perfectly complemented by a bold – but utterly gorgeous – beauty look, courtesy of Bren Robertson. It starts with smooth and hydrated skin, a glowing complexion, and a hint of contouring, all finished with layered mascara and red lips.
Robertson has made it easy to replicate Balfe’s beauty look at the 92nd Academy Awards by sharing on Instagram the exact steps and products it took to achieve her flawless incandescence.
Let's start at the most important step: PREP! Robertson revealed he prepped Balfe's skin using a mix of Clarins' Beauty Flash Balm ($49/€38) and La Mer's Crème de la Mer ($335/€306). After prepping Balfe's skin, Robertson then applied The Etherealist Foundation by Kevyn Aucoin in shade #02 ($58/€54) to conceal imperfections (we can't imagine there were many) and create a soft base for the rest of the look.

Much like her personality, Balfe’s skin has never been dull. So Robertson decided to embrace her natural beauty by enhancing her using Charlotte Tilbury's Wonderglow ($54/€49) as a priming base. He then took Liquid Light by Ilia Makeup ($42/€40) to create that dewy finish.

For the eyes, Balfe kept things simple with a hint of eyeliner and a touch of mascara. Using Clarins' 3-Dot Liner ($29/€26), Robertson created a baby cat-eye to compliment Balfe's bold red lip. To make Balfe's lashes pop, he then took Diorshow mascara by Dior ($29.50/€29) which he describes as being "the best."

Speaking of those red lips, the lipstick in question is Clarins Joli Rouge in shade #742. Priced at $30 (€24), the lipstick is enriched with organic Salicornia extract and mango oil meaning it instantly hydrates the lips and stays put for a minimum of six hours.

THE LIPS 2.0:
As for the afterparty, Robertson was also on hand to get Balfe ready for The Vanity Fair Afterparty. While the pair decided to keep the makeup Balfe originally wore to the awards, Robertson swapped out the Joli Rouge lipstick for a brighter, cherry red shade by Urban Decay. The lipstick in question here was Comfort Matte Lipstick by Urban Decay in shade Bad Blood. ($18/€17)
