If We Were Trapped On A Desert Island And Could Only Choose One Beauty Product, This Is What We'd Pick

Sure, the thought of being stranded in a desert is a little frightening - but the thought of being stranded without our beauty kit? That's the stuff of nightmares.

If you ever find yourself in a room full of fashion and beauty editors, ask them each which beauty product they'd take on a desert island, and then sit back and watch the panic ensue.

Once upon a time, my beauty regime consisted of two steps: wash and moisturise. When I started this, at the age of 13, I felt very adult.

Now, a decade later, my beauty regime can now be broken into two separate categories: makeup and skincare - which together consist of 20 steps. Excessive, I know but I just can't help it.

However, the latest beauty trend everyone seems to be talking about is 'skipcare'; the idea of breaking up with your beauty routine and going back to the skincare routine you used as a young teen.

Between beauty trends that convince me to wear cream blusher on my temples to new brands launching in Ireland to my beloved makeup bag staples - I am a beauty hoarder meaning the thought of skipping out on any of my precious beauty products is just not an option.

But what if I had no choice, what if I could only choose one beauty product to use for the rest of my life?

That's why I asked the Irish Tatler team what one beauty item they would fly in, via emergency helicopter, if they were stranded on a desert island. It did not need to be survival-related, SPF was taken as a given, but I wanted to be clear that I was not asking for their favourite product. I was asking what they'd use if they were forced to simplify their regime down to one step.

What's the one thing they couldn't bear to part with? That they'd use if they couldn't use anything else, ever?

Keep scrolling to see what - after much panic - they said (plus what I picked) and then tell us yours!

Is bringing bronzer to a desert island the same as bringing sand to the beach?

Well, superfluous or not, I love a warm, sun-kissed glow á la Tom Hanks in Castaway most days and for that reason, I'm sticking to my Soleil Tan De Chanel.

I apply it to the top of my forehead, my cheekbones and down the bridge of my nose (the highpoints of my face, where the sun hits first). It's also great to blend with fingers, as it’s so malleable...ideal for drawing on Wilson's face too when times get really tough!

SPF50 is unmissable for me being the palest person alive. (Legit, milk bottle here.)

However, to avoid being a total bore I would choose Elf Beauty Shield SPF50 as it's tinted and has an unreal natural glow.

Beauty Shield Skin Shielding Moisturiser, €16.95, e.l.f.

I would not go anywhere without the Stila Convertible Cheek Colour in Peony - I've used it for years, and will never stop buying it due to its perfect peachy pinkness that flatters all skin types.

The texture melds with the skin to look completely natural, and it's creamy consistency adds a dewiness I love. It's an all singing, all dancing anti-ageing prettifier extraordinaire - and it can be used on lips too - so if that doesn't earn desert island credentials, I don't know what does!

Convertible Cheek Colour in Peony, €24, Stila

lived years without using a purple shampoo so looking at old photos is the equivalent of flicking through a Tesco catalogue of discounted cheese.

Then one day I found PRO:VOKE Touch Of Silver Brightening Shampoo and now I have confidence my desert island rescue photos will look *kisses fingers*

Touch of Silver Brightening Shampoo, €3.66, PRO:VOKE

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream; a classic all-rounder, I'd have this with me on a desert island and anywhere else too!

It works as a lip balm, cuticle cream, burn soother, hair tamer, and when my skin is a wreck, I use it as a night mask too.

Eight Hour Cream, €34, Elizabeth Arden

Being someone who wears a full face all day every day, this is the most difficult question I've ever had to answer - and I sat higher level Irish in the leaving cert. What's foundation without concealer? What's contour without highlight? What's eyeshadow without eyebrows? What's lipstick without gloss? What am I without winged eyeliner? Dramatic but true.

My desert island beauty product would have to be the Tattoo Liner by Kat Von D.  A cult favourite beauty product for a reason. Sure I'll be starved and burnt to a crisp but at least my wings will be on point.

Tattoo Liner in Trooper, €21, Kat Von D

Mine would have to be a big tub of Nivea moisturiser, I'm a simple gal and hydrated skin is key.

All purpose body cream for face, hands and body, €4.49, Nivea
