There’s a built-in irony to any natural beauty look: You’re using an array of products to make it look like you’re not wearing anything at all. It gets trickier when you have freckles though, because you don’t want to cover them. So we called in the experts. bareMinerals' international makeup artist, SJ Froom shares her freckle friendly makeup tips.
Base
Bareminerals are all about enhancing your own gorgeous skin and their Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream is a perfect base for freckled skin. The lightweight formula is super buildable, so it can be applied in very sheer layers and built up as needed. Usually, SJ layers up two light applications to neutralise any rosiness, leaving the skin's surface and tone more even, without masking anything.
Concealer
Concealer, by nature, is heavier and thicker than foundation, so if you start with foundation first, you use less concealer and it looks more natural. To conceal under the eyes and eliminate any redness or blemishes, try using a small amount of the bareMinerals bareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer. Instead of applying directly to the face, dab a small amount onto the back of your hand and use a fluffy brush apply a touch of concealer just to the places that need a little more coverage. The fluffy brush will allow you to disperse the formula for a sheer finish, perfect for ensuring your natural complexion shows through.
Lips
If your lips are surrounded by a few freckles, you could try joining them up where you can, making your lips look instantly fuller. Use a cotton bud or your ring finger to soften the line so you are left with a natural looking finish. Using a nude lip liner to fill in the lips and then finish with a slick of natural gloss.
Colour
If you loved Meghan Markle’s glowy complexion on her big day, the key to adding a warm sun kissed glow to freckly skin is to gently build up sheer layers of colour. Try the bareMinerals Invisible Bronze Powder Bronzer, which is a finely milled powder formula that is really lightweight on the skin, and pop it where the sun would naturally kiss the complexion. Remember to tap off any excess product before applying to ensure that the layers are super sheer, this will avoid excess product being added to the brush which will then mask your freckles. Use the same technique to apply a pop of blush to the apples of the cheeks – the Gen Nude Powder Blush is a weightless formula available in a range of nude shades to compliment all skin tones, pick the closest to your skin tone for a natural flush that will enhance your freckles.
