Spa Series: The Grounding Ritual At The K Spa, The K Club, Kildare

“Essential oils speak our bodies language”

A review of the K Club's Ground Rituals, ‘Tóg Go Bog é’ and the 'Grounding Ritual' - each of which includes breathwork, hands-on rhythmical pressures and techniques, Gua Sha stones, and the use of aromatherapy oils.

“Essential oils speak our bodies language,” says spa expert, Peigín Crowley. And she should know. Working in the industry for over 20 years, first as a therapist before becoming a spa consultant and helping leading destinations such as Adare Manor, The Cliff House Hotel and The Merrion create award-winning facilities and treatments.

Her approach is always a holistic one she says, and in early 2020 she channelled her years of experience into establishing her own brand, Ground, a collection of 100 per cent natural aromatherapy balms and oils for the face and body.

 Ground Rituals

With it, she has crafted bespoke spa treatments, Ground Rituals, which can now be found at The K Club in Kildare. First is the ‘Tóg go bog é’ Full Body Massage (60 mins, €145), and The Grounding Ritual (60 mins, €145). Each treatment includes breathwork, hands-on rhythmical pressures and techniques, including Gua Sha stones, and the use of aromatherapy oils.

Both treatments start with you choosing from two aromatherapy blends, which the spa therapist purposefully doesn’t actually specify the elements of, so your choice is merely based on your own bodies natural impulse. The Ground Ritual focuses specifically on the back of the body and is centred on the areas that are prone to tightness and tension.

For Crowley, the rhythmic movement of the massage and the hands-on healing nature of touch is as important as any technique. And she has trained the already very experienced team at the K Spa well. So while you get to select your choice of pressure applied, there is a real flow to the treatment. The incorporation of gentle breathwork, hands-on rhythmical pressures and techniques, including the Gua Sha stones, and the oils gives an overwhelming feeling of wellbeing. It is also surprisingly energising, releasing tiredness and fatigue in a gentle, soothing way. While it focuses on the back, it really works on all parts of the body, so there is no particular area feeling overlooked.

The Extras

While the treatment is a glorious hour long, if you are in need of more you can also enjoy the K Spa’s beautiful pool, jacuzzi and outdoor hot tub to extend your pampering time. Uniquely you can also explore the new sensory spa garden at The K Spa which incorporates some of the plant elements used in the Ground products. Featuring a water feature, comfy seating as well as a selection of complimentary herbs to the Ground Rituals, you can grab a leisurely afternoon tea here too.

The K Club has recently opened their more casual dining restaurant, The Palmer, an all-day dining venue spread across the first floor of the Clubhouse and out onto an impressive wraparound terrace, with views over the resort’s lush greens and swan lakes. Here you can get an early breakfast, a relaxed lunch, weekend brunch and dinner every evening right through to last orders. With Curragh lamb, locally-brewed beers, handmade cheese and fresh vegetables to produce from local suppliers, the menu also includes some ingredients grown in the resort’s own walled garden.
