How To Get Soft, Sandal-Ready Feet Just In Time For Sunnier Days

From cracked heels to flip-flop-induced injuries, summer is an absolute minefield for the feet.

After all, prepping your feet for sandals is really just another form of self-care.

As many of us continue to stay at home, foot care is finally having its much-deserved moment in the sun: after all, nothing makes us rethink our life choices (at least, as far as foot care goes) quite like spending the vast majority of your days shoe-free, right?

While warm weather is finally just around the corner, sandal season obviously will look pretty different from previous years. However, that doesn't mean you can't pamper yourself with some foot care as self-care — and hey, while you're at it, why not paint those toenails a fun pastel hue?

Ahead, five of the best products that will make sure your toes and heels are ready to come out of hibernation — even if you're the only one seeing them.

Soak It Up

The easiest way to solve your dry-foot problem is to buff away the dead skin. Before you can do that, you have to soften the build-up by soaking your feet in warm water for about 15 minutes. If your feet are in need of some extra TLC, try adding a little Episom salt to the bath or bowl.

Pumice stones are very easy to find and relatively cheap - they’re also great at ridding your skin of dry, hard patches. Just use gentle pressure as you buff the stone in circular motions until the skin sheds.

Soften Up

Did you know that the skin on our feet is up to ten times thicker than the rest of our skin? It therefore requires a much more intensive moisturising routine. Treat your feet to a little foot mask and follow up with a rich foot cream to give your toes and soles the much needed hydration.

Colour In

Trimming your toenails is the absolute minimum you should be doing in terms of footcare but no pedicure is really complete without a little toe dazzle. Now is not the time to shy away from colour, opt for traditional summery shades such as coral, red and orange.

Vinylux in shade Lobster Roll, €11.95; Vinylux in shade Catch Of The Day, €11.95; Vinylux in shade Tropix, €11.95, all CND

Sweat It Go

Hotter temperatures mean sweatier feet, so keep any odour development in check by spraying on a little deodorant before you step into your sliders. However, don’t go for an antiperspirant, that will just confuse your pores. Instead, opt for something more natural.
