How To Master The Perfect Blow Dry From Home, According To Kate Middleton's Hairdresser

With a client roster that includes Angelina Jolie, Kate Middleton and Jennifer Lawrence, Italian hairstylist Rossano Ferretti is known in the industry as one of the best.
Great hair starts with great products

He has tended to the tresses of A-listers and celebrities in his luxe hair salons around the world and, as he says himself, when clients come to him they never go anywhere else.

"Why would they?" we ask.

A cut from the master may come with an eye-watering price tag (not much change from 1,000) but Ferretti’s signature offering, an ‘invisible hair cut’ called The Method is transformative.

It has a devoted fan base and was revolutionary when he and his sister Lorenza launched it in the 1990s.

Rather than a one-size-fits-all ’do or over-done big blow dries of that era, Ferretti’s technique focused on working with hair’s natural shape and texture.

Precision snipping thins out excess weight, transforming hair with magic layers that fall naturally, to create a bespoke cut for each client.

His mantra? "Don’t hesitate to invest in your hair.”

A unique style

Individuality is at the heart of what he does in the salon.

“Bespoke, personalised in a very unique way,” he explains. “Everyone is unique. The thing is, I think, everybody has to be conscious of their own beauty and to establish a fantastic relationship with the beauty in themselves.”

Ferretti’s a passionate champion of hair health and launched his own luxury haircare brand last year.

The range combines natural ingredients and new technology with elegant packaging and delicate scents that make it a pleasure to use. “I wanted to change the emotion and experience of the client when she uses a hair product,” Ferretti told us.

The essential step?

Above all else, he believes in the importance of caring for hair.

That means getting the basics right – which requires some commitment. The payoff will be worth it though – and if you’re dropping big cash on colouring your hair every month or two, it makes sense to invest in your hair health in other ways.

“You need to take care of your hair like you take care of your skin,” Ferretti explains, “It’s a beauty regime. Buy a good shampoo, a mask, and a serum to protect hair from the heat. If you don’t do that how can it be healthy?”

The single most important thing he would recommend for good hair, every day? A quality shampoo.

“Yes, you can buy a mask but before that, but you must buy the shampoo,” he insists. “If you don’t go gently into the scalp and hair the mask won’t be able to work. It’s a process. Don’t hesitate to invest in your hair – it’s the only way it can stay healthy and beautiful.”
