The end of lockdown is finally in sight, and boy, will we be ready for it!
Yesterday, we turned a COVID corner.
Phase One is finally upon us, and while we're still some time away from spending weekends with loved ones or being able to safely go about our normal routines again, there certainly feels like an end is in sight.
Sure, there's a lot standing between us and then, but a least now – should we continue to play by the rules (and not throng every garden centre in the country) – there's a tangible thread of hope to cling to. And it's with that renewed sense of hope, as well as some shiny, new beauty launches to distract ourselves with, that we'll pull through.
If you can't possibly read anymore about the big crowds lined up outside of Woodies, consider this your outlet, one that's full of escapism in the form of beauty newness, skincare to soothe the soul and the lastest makeup to provide a bit of a boost. We're here for you, always.
Read on for the best new beauty launches to hit shelves this May - even if it's just to do some virtual window shopping from your living room.
Combining two powerhouse ingredients (salicylic and retinol) into one formula for the first time, Dermalogica is adding to its Active Clearing range with a high-performance night oil that renews skin while you sleep, delivering clearer skin and reducing the signs of premature ageing.
Launches on 28 May.
Retinol Clearing Oil, €83, Dermalogica - Pre-Order
Handcream, but NOT as you know it! Since launching its miracle-performing 'The Cream' in 2018, rooted-in-science brand, Augustinus Bader has added its sumptuously buttery Body Moisturiser and collaborated with Victoria Beckham Beauty on two skincare products to a rapturous response. Now, recognising the need for a healing product that catered to the demands of dry, cracked, and over-washed hands, the Hand Treatment is born. Harnessing the same TFC8 technology as the face cream before it, expect this souped-up hand cream to strengthen the skin’s barrier, treat damage and protecting against future aggressors.
Launches on 23 May.
The Hand Treatment With TFC8®, €40, Augustinus Bader - Pre-Order
& Other Stories
It might not be the first place that comes to mind, but & Other Stories is a mecca of amazing quality beauty buys (more on this later), and this month, it's expanding fragrant customer favourite range, Perle de Coco to include a limited edition Glow Body Lotion that features the same delicious summery scent (coconut, vanilla, and caramel) and leaves limbs glistening thanks to the faintest hint of finely milled shimmer. A holiday (or staycation) essential.
Glow Body Lotion, €13, & Other Stories - SHOP
A few weeks ago, if you were asked to dream up the perfect base for quarantine-living, we're pretty sure you'd have landed on something very close to Kevyn's Stripped Nude Skin Tint. Sheer-yet-buildable in coverage and formulated with skincare benefits, this glowy but non-greasy base will leave your skin looking flawless, but also as if you’re wearing next to nothing.
Inspired by the brand's incredibly popular Dark Spot Correcting Serum (which has been a bestseller for nearly 15 years), this moisturising cream boasts the same brightening effects. Meant to be used after the serum, the cream gives your skin an immediate glow upon application, but because it contains niacinamide and the brand's Viniferine ingredient (which helps fade dark spots), it also helps to even out your skin tone over time.
Vinoperfect Dark Spot Correcting Moisturiser, €41.50, Caudalie - SHOP
Triple Brow Pen, the latest in Milk's beloved line of Kush products, makes achieving fluffy brows easier than ever, thanks to the tiny ridges in its felt-tipped applicator. Essentially, one stroke with this pen creates multiple hair-like strokes.
Kush Triple Brow Pen, €25, Milk Makeup - SHOP
If even the mention self-tan is enough to fill you with fear, the major new launch from bronzing heroes Tan-Luxe is bound to convert you.
Neither a messy mousse nor a risky foam, this silky-smooth serum for your body dries instantly and leaves a really authentic hue behind. Just like the face iteration, it's packed with multi-weight hyaluronic acid to draw moisture into the skin, for extra nourishment and illumination. Believe us, slathering this on of an evening becomes so much more a treat than a chore.
Super Glow Body Serum, €42.75, Tan-Luxe - SHOP
Familiar with Vichy's insanely hydrating Minéral 89 Serum? If even that's not been enough to quench your quarantine skin's thirst, this sheet mask – pumped with hyaluronic acid – is just waiting to provide a much-needed hit of hydration.
Minéral 89 Fortifying Instant Recovery Mask, €8.50, Vichy - SHOP
We tend to hold any beauty launch that has been a few years in development to pretty high standards... something we and Huda Kattan have in common.
A perfectionist when it comes to her formulations, Legit Lashes is the brand's first and only mascara – taking four years to develop and housing two totally different mascara formulas and two totally different shaped wands within one tube. On one side, you have Length & Curl, and on the other, Volume & Define – what's not to love?
Legit Lashes Mascara, €26.95, Huda Beauty - Pre-Order
Eight seems to be the magic number for Trinny London's Lip Glow shades, as a sheer, vibrant fuchsia hue called Indi joins the fan-favourite lip gloss family this month. One layer gives lips a glossy tint of pink, and the more you add, the more opaque it becomes. Apply it with either your finger or a brush, and it can be popped on cheeks or eyes too for a glossy finish.
Lip Glow in Indi, €18.50, Trinny London - SHOP
