The Vitamin C Product That's Worth The Hype

It brightens, tightens and didn't break my sensitive easily-irritated skin out.

My winter face-saver.

Vitamin C is a vitamin frequently used in skincare, and one of the most powerful antioxidants for the skin.

It is used in many forms in skincare, the most well-known and well-researched of which is ascorbic acid –– other forms include magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and ascorbyl palmitate.

It is included in skin care products for its antioxidant properties, meaning that it can help to protect skin from environmental aggressors.

For that reason, it is best when used regularly, as part of your morning skincare regime. Vitamin C is also used for its anti-ageing and brightening benefits and is often combined with other vitamins and antioxidants for an additional boost.

Seems perfect, right?

Wrong. Due to its potency, products that boast a lot of Vitamin C tend to lend themselves to skin aggression, meaning that the ingredients list – and the measurements of said products – are of huge importance.

Enter, Ren Skincare's Glow Daily Vitamin C Gel Cream.

I've written about Ren Skincare and why I think it rules before, but a second bout of praise is deserved for the Glow Daily Gel Cream – and that's after a 2019 filled with hype for the wonder-product.

My relationship with Vitamin C products had previously been fraught, to say the least, with my Celtic skin turning fuschia at the mere thought. But, my opinion has been changed wholly thanks to this tough-but-kind product which has brought luminosity back to my tired and wind-beaten face (I walk an hour and back to work; good for the thighs, bad for the cheeks).

It also boasts a sweet citrusy smell which would remind me of Seville if I'd ever been – something which put me off at first, given that scented products have historically been my nemesis. However, I now love slapping it on as it gives me a morning scent-burst while also making my skin look peachy.

At €43, it's pricier than my usual skincare purchases, but I do believe it is worth the price tag. Mine has lasted me the guts of six months, leaves my skin feeling hydrated, and also boasts brightness rarely seen on my skin before.

Also, it goes without saying, that one of the main selling points for me is that it is cruelty-free and wholly clean.

The packaging has statements all over it about not testing on animals and tells you to recycle the box it comes in. Even the box that the products come in is 100% recyclable – down to the dissolvable packaging chips inside.

I will definitely be purchasing again. And will also pick up one for my mum – which means you know I loved it.
