How To Fake a Healthy, Youthful Flush of Colour

The beauty equivalent of looking at the world through rose-tinted glasses, a swirl of blusher can be revitalising, making you look fresh and awake.

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with beauty and the experts we’ve conferred with are picking up on a general consensus for fun, bright, mood-boosting makeup. Here Amy Heffernan, Irish Tatler’s assistant editor shows a fresh new makeup look for our newfound freedom, created using M•A•C Cosmetics products.

From being used to a point of saturation in the ’80s à la Kim Wilde to being eschewed more recently in favour of Kardashiancontouring, blush has gotten a bit of a bad rap.

But in actuality, it’s one product that has the power to restore the youthful flush that
may have been stolen from us by age, stress, exhaustion and/or a combination of the aforementioned.

As we edge towards freedom, now, I’ve decided, is the time to put my best face forward and I’d quite like my complexion to be imbued with the same cheery optimism as my disposition. The beauty equivalent of looking at the world through rose-tinted glasses, a swirl of the
right shade high on the cheeks, I’ve learned, can be revitalising, making you look fresh and awake.

And, for a monochromatic look that feels very of the moment, I’m doubling down, teaming my blush with a lipstick in a matching rosy hue.

Reformulated and repackaged earlier this year, M•A•C Studio Fix Tech Cream-To-Powder Foundation features a tri-system blend of water, emollients and powder, and smoothly glides onto skin before setting to a natural, matte finish. Boasting hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin, you get to control the level of coverage and creasing never becomes a worry, even after a long day of wear.

Keeping to the theme of unique textures, M•A•C’s new Glow Play Blush feels like a cream-putty hybrid, almost bouncy to the touch. I love that it (shade 'Grand') delivers a veil of colour to the cheeks that’s high-impact but soft-focus, meaning it’s difficult to overdo (as can so often be the worry with blusher).

For the lips, M•A•C Powder Kiss Liquid Lipcolour in the shade 'Mull It Over' lends a hazy, blurred effect with a cushiony cloud feel. Whipped and weightless, the texture is like no matte before it, offering luxe pigment payoff without any flaking or dryness. A kiss of colour, if you will.

The finishing touch, a few spritzes of the latest addition to M•A•C’s Prep + Prime Fix+ lineup, Fix+ Magic Radiance which not only leaves the skin looking plump and glowing, but is formulated with a hydration cocktail that the skin drinks up too.
