Dry hair, split ends and yellow tones are problems lots of us experience with our hair during the summer months.
But we've called in the big guns, artistic director of Dublin’s premier salon Preen, Aoife Bradley, to talk us through her top tips for healthy summer hair.
"Always use sulfate free shampoo! It helps to give longevity to your colour, there’s nothing in there that will strip or fade. My top recommendation for maintaining colour is Angel Wash by Kevin Murphy - it’s a fine hair shampoo that has no sulfates or parabens and will keep the color looking the same, it nourishes the hair and is volumizing, so it’s not heavy."
"Try the Young Again range. Young Again is a lovely oil treatment. Its aim is to keep your hair really fresh and bring it back to that virgin state. Also, there is a Young Again masque that hydrates your hair. We recommend you do this on holidays, especially if your sunbathing. With the heat of the sun, it will intensify the treatment in your hair and protect it. It’s definitely a must-have for summer holidays."
"Blonde hair can tend to go yellow after a few weeks, with daylight, pollution and obviously with that extra sun that we’re all getting. Brassy tones are something our clients usually really hate, so Kevin Murphy brought out a product called Blonde Angel. It’s a clever wash-in conditioner that will kill these unwanted yellow tones and will keep the hair light and luminous."
"During the summer, it’s so important to be using UVA and UVB protection on our hair, as it is on our skin. Being an Australian brand, they're well used to sun damaged skin and hair, so Kevin Murphy has sun-protection formulated into all of his haircare. I'd also advise covering your hair with a hat, while on holidays, especially if you're under direct sunlight. It will prolong the colour and protect the condition."
"Try embracing your natural texture when you're away. Give your hair a break from the blow-dry and pack products that will give you some nice texture or a beachy look instead, like the Hair Resort spray. Once you have washed your hair, bring the product through at the middle, lengths, and ends and scrunch hard to style without the need for heat."
