Thanks to Storm Ciara, we're being faced with the struggle of winter hat head. But to help defeat hat hair once and for all, we've teamed with Batiste to give one lucky Irish Tatler reader the chance to win a year's supply of dry shampoo!
Hat hair might feel like a minor inconvenience to some, but anyone who's removed a beanie before a big meeting and stared in the face of a colossal dent knows its day-ruining effects. With thanks to Storm Ciara, every day is an internal debate over needing something to keep your head warm mid-commute and sacrificing some your blowdry (or day three-bed head). Because let's be honest, nothing except a pair of dorky earmuffs (which, for the record, we do not endorse) does the trick without ruining your soft french girl waves you spent so long trying to achieve. But there is one easy, effortless way to fix hat head once and for all: dry shampoo.
You've seen it everywhere and most likely have used it a few times, but what exactly is dry shampoo and how can it save chronic hat hair? Dry shampoo is a water-free option for cleansing your hair, also known as the easiest way to get your hair clean without taking a shower. Period. There are several ways to use dry shampoo, ideally on days when you don't have time to take a full shower or are running late. But now, thanks to one particular hack (we'll get to that in a minute) – dry shampoo is now a hat hair saviour. Take that Storm Ciara.
"How can a mere spritz of dry shampoo possibly cure that colossal dent left by a beanie hat?" I hear you cry, well pretty easily, actually. On hat days, always remember to pop some dry shampoo in your bag. Travel-size versions fit perfectly in your handbag or your desk drawer at work. See, dry shampoo not only absorbs oils (it can get little warm under there), it is also great for adding volume back into flat, dented hair in seconds.
Simply flip your hair upside down, hold the bottle of dry shampoo at least 6 inches from your head and spray evenly at the roots. This will create volume from the base of your hairline. If you don't have any tools handy, tousle your hair roots with your fingers to reintroduce volume. Then take some more dry shampoo and spray lightly towards the end of your hair. The boost in volume will defeat the flatness created by your beanie while spraying it on the end will add texture and disguise that dent. Note: it's not a good idea to spray on wet or damp hair so if you've been caught in the rain or snow, we advise hitting up the bathroom's hand dryer before you even go near your mane with dry shampoo.
There was once a time where dry shampoo was a niche beauty product that was extremely hard to come by, now dry shampoos are now so popular, they have inundated the market. So you'd be forgiven for feeling overwhelmed when try to choose the right dry shampoo, so we've done the hard work for you. Allow us to introduce you to Batiste. Globally, two bottles of Batiste's Dry Shampoo are sold every second, and to make matters even more enticing, the dry shampoo comes in at a nifty €10 or less.
Although today's versions are formulated for different shades of hair colour and different hair types, Batiste's Core Range takes home the gold medal every time.
