You Can Now Wash Your Hair With Wine, Here's Why It Isn't As Ludicrous As It Sounds

Wine not!

Text the group chat! We've teamed up with HASK to give one lucky Irish Tatler reader AND a friend the chance to win the entire Unwined by Hask haircare collection so you can have a (slightly different than usual) wine night.

They say a glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away. And now, it seems it'll keep both your dermatologist and hairdresser away too. Red wine beauty products are trending, and although we're only two months in, it's the best news of the year.

Even if you don't choose to believe the research (more fool you) that shows a glass of cabernet sauvignon a day is good for your heart and will increase your life expectancy to 106, there is still scientific evidence that proves red wine is loaded with antioxidant-rich resveratrol, known for fighting the free radicals that contribute to skin's fine lines and wrinkles. It's also made from grapes, which is a) a fruit and b) in oil form, boasts the kind of vitamins and omegas that have quite the hydrating reputation.

So it's no surprise really that red wine is now being herald as a must-have hair care ingredient. The shine-enhancing haircare brand HASK has released a full line of wine-inspired hair products with those same good-for-you properties you find in wine. And before cry gimmick, trust that there is the science to back it up.

YOU HAD ME AT MERLOT

As you’ve probably heard before, red wine is kind of a superfood. Wine, red in particular, contains resveratrol which is a powerful antioxidant that's been proven to help protect and rejuvenate your skin and give it a refreshed glow. How does this relate to hair, you ask? Well, considering hair is actually made up of dead skin, it's easy to deduce what similarly beneficial effects red wine might have on it.

The Unwined by Hask Red Wine Inspired Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner is infused with wine extract (full of the aforementioned resveratrol), grape seed oil and rich fruit extracts. Grapeseed oil contains twice as much Vitamin E as olive oil, as well as Omega-6 fatty acids. Both of which are powerful tools when it comes to combating dry, dull skin so you’d better believe it can also give hair a shiny, healthy, and hydrated boost. The fruit extracts in there give nourishment and strength whilst also repairing dry and brittle strands. Oh, and it smells great to thanks to rich scents of full-bodied fruits like pomegranate, plum and black cherry.

WHITE ON TIME

As far as the white wine products go, they also include resveratrol (though red wine has much higher levels of it) and grapeseed oil, so they have similarly favourable properties. You can use this on any hair type, and thanks to fruit extracts like lemon, pear, apple and melon, your hair genuinely looks glossy after use.
