It’s never easy to accomplish the dewy, hydrated, just-got-back-from-a-trip-to-Fiji glow – especially in winter. Which is why we've teamed up with The Shelbourne to give one lucky Irish Tatler reader the chance to win a 55-minute Elemis facial at The Spa at The Shelbourne.
Winter can be a harsh and terrible thing—at least when it comes to your beauty routine.
The cold air, frigid winds, and close proximity to indoor heaters dry and dull out your skin, and the only solution short of wearing a ski mask out and about (although, thanks to Billie Eilish, we've definitely thought about incorporating that accessory into our wardrobe multiple times) is skincare.
Ask any beauty pro and they'll tell you: You won't find the secret to glowy skin in the pan of a highlighter palette. Rather, getting skin that permanently looks as though you're fresh off vacation—which is to say, healthy, radiant, and clear—is a combination of product, patience, and a perfected skincare routine. The good news is that if you're short on the latter, we've enlisted the expertise of Jacqueline Nash, The Spa Team Leader at The Shelbourne to teach us how to achieve your brightest winter skin yet, in six easy steps.
1. Drink Plenty of Water
You might not feel like it when the temperatures drop but skin still really needs hydration, even in winter. "Water is essential to maintain the optimum skin moisture and deliver essential nutrients to skin cells. To adequately feed the skin, it is advised to drink 3 litres a day," advises Nash.
2. Cleanse & Exfoliate
Cleansing and exfoliating are crucial to achieving bright, beautiful skin. Even the lowest-
maintenance of skincare routines should include gentle cleansing every morning and night to ensure full removal of make-up and residue. "Cleansing should never be skipped,
even if you embraced a make-up free day. I recommend avoiding foaming cleansers –
which can be drying – and instead choose a soothing cleansing balm that will effortlessly melt away make-up," recommends Nash. Exfoliation dissolves dead skin cells to provide deeper penetration for products.
"Serums are the secret ingredient to maintaining fresh, youthful skin," explains Nash. "They are designed to penetrate the skin deeper than regular moisturisers, thus providing the highest level of hydration. Regardless of age, serums should be a staple in everyone’s skincare to best optimise nourishment, balance and radiance. They can be used morning and evening
under your regular moisturiser."
4. Face Masks
Face masks can often be forgotten about after cleansing, exfoliating, serums and moisturisers. "They are a calming treatment boosting radiance to the skin, especially comforting during the hectic Christmas party season. Why not apply your face mask and sit back with a warm cup of tea for a little evening treat?" says Nash.
"Always finish off your skincare routine with a protective and rich moisturiser to maintain balance, hydration and skin elasticity. SPF prevents sun damage and should be used every single day, even on overcast winter days. However, I would advise a non-SPF moisturiser for night time to prevent clogged pores." advises Nash.
6. get a facial
If all else fails or you just don't know where to begin, a facial really is the best place to start. Depending on your skincare concerns, it can incorporate any number of treatments, including serums, creams, oils, acid peels, exfoliation, steam, laser, and more. Regardless of which aspects are included in your particular facial, the result is typically the same: clear, bright skin that looks positively glowing.
But thanks to all the Christmas shopping and partywear attaining, not all of us can afford to go to the spa on a regular basis for facials. So, to help relieve the stress we've teamed up with The Shelbourne to give one lucky Irish Tatler reader the chance to win a 55-minute Elemis Facial at The Spa at The Shelbourne to keep your winter skin glowing all season long. The lucky winner will also have access to the thermal suite and relaxation area pre and post-treatment.
OH NO, YOU'RE A LITTLE LATE!
