Experts are all in agreement - sun protection is the one skincare step we all need to be incorporating into our daily routines. While many foundations contain SPF, you need to be topping up your face and neck every two hours with a teaspoonful to keep up the level of protection it says on the bottle, which is a whole lot of makeup.
And as we all know, sweat and heavy makeup don't exactly play well together. Besides who wants to spend time layering on a full beat only to have it sweat off an hour later? Not me is who.
So allow me to introduce you to a tinted SPF; they're lightweight, excellent at evening out skin tone, and are especially ideal for touching up throughout the day. (Every two hours, remember?) You should also know that there are options in SPF 15 all the way up to broad-spectrum SPF 50, and anywhere in between.
These magical bases come in several different formulas (liquid, cream, powder) as well as finishes (dewy, matte, satin) and feature super sheer, medium, and full-coverage options.
However, when it comes to tinted SPFs, there is one big caveat; the lack of inclusive shades. The majority of SPFs on the market right now is for light-to-medium skin tones. And of the light-to-medium options available, it's rare to find one that is pale-girl-friendly. That said, there are several brands that are getting it right and checking all the boxes in terms of protection, skin-perfecting, and shade range, so we're really hoping others do the smart thing and follow suit soon.
Although the best tinted SPF may not be your ideal match, they are worth your investment. SPFs contain zinc and titanium to protect against the sun but together, they result in giving the skin a grey/blue hue. When a tint is added into an SPF, it not only helps in making you look more alive but it also masks that grey/blue hue. Keep scrolling to see and shop our edit of 2019's top sunglasses trends.
