Classic British heritage meets anarchic punk, the latest fashion collaboration from Burberry Prorsum and Vivienne Westwood may be the most unsuspected one yet.

Creative Director of Burberry, Riccardo Tisci took to Instagram to announce that Burberry would be collaborating with an equally as established British fashion household name, albeit one that is slightly off-brand for the Burberry customer, Vivienne Westwood.

Saying in his Instagram post, Tisci writes that, "Vivienne was one of the first designers who made me dream to become a designer...I am SO honoured to announce a new Burbs collaboration with the original British PUNK." Having been at Givenchy previous to being selected as Christopher Bailey's successor, Tisci was considered a wild card pick for Burberry. And with his debut collection yet to be delivered, this collaboration could be what launches both Burberry and Tisci into a whole new era.

The limited-edition collection is set to hit stores in December of this year, with the collection blending a mix of Westwood's trademark punk designs taken from her archive and Burberry's classic heritage taste. As ever with Westwood, she insists on some humanitarian or environmental scheme to any project she does (Westwood is a proud supporter of many charities including Green Peace and PETA). In that spirit, a portion of the profits will be going to Cool Earth, a charity focused on saving the rainforests.

They do say opposites attract and we for one can't wait to see how these seemingly opposing fashion brands collaborate when it comes to style and message.
