Cara Delevingne Will Be Honoured With Award For Service To LGBTQ Youth

Past honorees of the Hero Award include Ryan Murphy and the cast of Pose, Lena Waithe, Arianna Huffington, and Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds.

“We’re grateful to Cara for using her voice to inspire so many young people in the LGBTQ community.”

Model-cum-actress-cum-activist Cara Delevingne is being honoured by The Trevor Project, the national non-profit dedicated to providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.

At this year's TrevorLive gala at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City on 17 June, Delevingne will be presented with the Hero Award, honouring her commitment to the community served by the Trevor Project and to supporting its mission.

Delevingne has long been an outspoken champion for LGBTQ rights, using her social platforms and professional career to voice support for a bevvy of other issues as well, including the #MeToo movement, raising awareness about climate change, and advocating for more women in Congress.

The Trevor Project is an American not-for-profit organisation founded in 1998 which focuses on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. Through a toll-free telephone number, it operates The Trevor Lifeline, a confidential service that offers trained counsellors.

Past honorees of the Hero Award include Ryan Murphy and the cast of Pose, Lena Waithe, Arianna Huffington, and Imagine Dragons singer Dan Reynolds.

On Delevingne’s honour, Amit Paley, CEO and executive director of The Trevor Project, said her candid personality has matched the spirit of past recipients.

“The Trevor Project hears from young LGBTQ people every day who draw hope and inspiration from their idols—especially when those idols openly share their personal experiences and messages of support like Cara—because it reminds [them] that they are not alone,” he said.

“We’re grateful to Cara for using her voice to inspire so many young people in the LGBTQ community.”

Presenters and performers for this year’s gala will be announced in the coming weeks.
