It's cardi time.

From 'ugly' sneakers (looking @ u, Balenciaga) to boiler suits and fanny packs - 2018 has been a year of surprising fashion trends. Perhaps none more so than the resurgence of the humble cardigan, the knitwear staple that seems to have gone from 'gran' to glam.

Thanks to some brands, wooly button-ups have never felt so appealing. While once the mere mention of the garment may have evoked images of an elderly relative with hankies stuffed up their sleeves, a cardigan now presents itself as a covetable addition to your winter wardrobe.

Granted, long, loose knitted cardis never quite went out of fashion thanks to their convenience and widespread presence on the high street, but we're talking about the cropped versions more usually associated with preppy twinsets.

Case in point: Sézane's 'Barry jumper', which has racked up a waitlist of 10,000 people. Nicknamed the ultimate 'French Girl Cardigan' the item has sold over 50,000 units since its introduction. It's now available in eight colours, but alas, don't expect to get your hands on it anytime soon as they are nearly all still sold out.

Perhaps its popularity is due to both its versatility (it can also be worn back to front) and simplicity.
