Ashley Graham, Jorja Smith And Lizzo Can't Stop Wearing This Affordable Designer

We've lost count of the number of celebs we've seen wearing one of 16Arlington's stunning designs.

Name a celebrity, chances are they own at least one item from 16Arlington

Previously reserved for those-in-the-know, eveningwear brand 16Arlington’s has seen a massive spike in popularity and has been spotted on everyone from Jorja Smith to Lady Gaga. Characterised by its unique blend of sleek Scandi style and Italian opulence, its collections are characterised by a killer party look: think feather-trimmed jumpsuits, slinky strapless gowns, crushed velvet tailoring, oh, and of course, a plentiful dose of high-shine sequins. We caught up with Marco Capaldo and Kikka Cavenat, the designers and partners behind the label, to prove that the party – and more importantly partywear – is all year long.

THE DESIGN DUO MET AT ART COLLEGE.

KC: “It’s been such a whirlwind, it all started in our flat on Arlington street. Marco and I moved into this little studio flat which became our home, workspace, our everything. We felt our family, our friends, they were looking for some special pieces especially more of the partywear and that’s where it all began.”

INSPIRATION COMES FROM EVERYWHERE.

MC: “There’s always an iconic woman we have in mind when creating a collection. For SS20, there are nostalgic nods to the 1960s and also disco queen Raffaella Carrà. She’s the Cher of Italy. Think beaded gowns, feathered cocktail dresses and lamé suits.”

THE PARTY SEASON DOESNT’ STOP COME 1 JANUARY.

KC: “It’s about looking at every ‘party’ piece and seeing it as a transitional item. Sequins, sparkle, feathers are for all year round – in our eyes anyway. It’s actually quite fun to take pieces that are typically ‘eveningwear’ or ‘party’ and merging it with jeans, jumpers, casual items and just wearing them to everyday places.”

EVERY WOMAN IS SEEKING A SIGNATURE STYLE.

MC: “I think it’s about finding those pieces that evoke emotion, that makes you feel something. Once you find those pieces, style just comes naturally. Everyone has it in them it’s just finding the pieces to bring it out.

The ideal party capsule wardrobe includes classics we revisit every year.

KC: “A little feather top, a sequin dress and leather...these pieces truly are seasonless. I’ve worn these items so many times around the same people and they always ask if it’s a new piece. It all comes down to how you style them.”

Just like salt and vinegar or gin and tonic, the perfect party outfit can be elevated by hair and makeup.

MC: “A partywear piece goes perfectly with just hair tied up in a knot and minimal makeup. But at the same time, a bold lip and lashes compliment partywear just as beautifully. The clothes should never wear the woman, the woman should wear the clothes. So your shoes, bag, lipstick should reflect how that item makes you feel.

There aren't many people who could pull off a feather-trimmed frock and trainers, but Adwoa Aboah makes it look so easy.

The brand's minimalist approach results in more tailored, silky pieces.

MC: “We like to hope there’s more to our collection than just ‘party’. We’ve had a lot of VIP attention and red carpet moments thanks to our party pieces but we see our pieces to have longevity, we don’t want them to be yet another fast fashion piece that are bought, worn once and hung in the wardrobe. We want our pieces to live on. These are pieces for real women to love and enjoy and repeatedly wear. 16Arlington can integrate into a woman’s existing wardrobe and be styled a hundred different ways.”

Each piece is created with the same aim in mind: to give the wearer confidence.

MC: “It’s amazing to see celebrities like Lena Dunham and Chrissy Teigen in our clothes but it’s equally as special to spot someone on the street wearing our brand. Real women are parting with their hard-earned money to buy something we’ve designed. Whoever the women, we want our clothes to evoke an emotion, evoke fun. We want women to put on our clothes, to have a good time and for their clothes to have a story to tell the next day.”
