When Green Goes Luxe: Alberta Ferretti's 'Love Me' Collection

Proving sustainability and luxury can be friends...

The Italian designer is calling out fast fashion for falsely appropriating sustainable ideals...

When you think of sustainable fashion, few people spring to mind: Vivienne Westwood, Mara Hoffman, Stella McCartney - the list goes on. And as sustainability continues to sweep the fashion world with more and more brands producing high-quality, eco-friendly garments, new names and collections emerge.

The latest designer to take action is Alberta Ferretti who has teamed up with her long-time friend and Eco-Age creative director, Livia Firth to create a sustainable capsule collection.

The issue has long been close to Ferretti’s heart (she worked with Emma Watson on an eco-friendly capsule collection in 2011) and continued the process of integrating sustainability throughout her brand and beyond, encouraging customers to make ever more environmentally conscious and responsible choices.

Eco-Age X Love Me

This latest charge into sustainability sees Ferretti collaborating with Eco-Age. The ‘Love Me’ Collection is inspired by nature and aims to remind us to love the planet and those living on it.

The collection features shimmering mini skirts, organic cotton shirts and sweaters crafted from recycled cashmere, embroidered with the phrase "It's a Wonderful World". The thread for the embroidery is Oeko-Tex certified, the garment label and paper price tags are recyclable, and even the packaging is compostable.

Speaking to Vogue, Ferretti explained why sustainability and fashion need to meet.

“Fashion is a great way to send a message. Everything we can do, every initiative, every signal, even the smallest thing, is important.”

The 'Love Me' capsule collection is available on from April – September.
