Look on the bright side — cheap, homemade cocktails and no chance of someone stealing your sun lounger...
Although it may feel like time has stood still since the country went into lockdown ten weeks ago, the earth is still turning on its axis. Life goes on no matter how many countries go under lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus – time still passes and Summer is here.
Of course, there are plenty of worse things going on at the moment – that’s for sure – but it’s only normal to feel a little disappointed that summer holidays won’t be going ahead as usual. After all, holidays are what we spend our days working towards. With the current news, it may be that plenty of us end up not travelling abroad for our holidays this summer. But who says you can can't enjoy summertime in Ireland? The truth is that summer in Ireland can be beautiful, and throwing on a bikini to sunbathe (with SPF on, of course) in the back garden can be just as fun.
Don't believe us? Well, allow us to present to you the plethora of celebrities and influencers who have all embraced the back garden bikini. Granted, they're back garden holidays involve wearing something that resembles twine and posing in front of a pool, professionally groomed lawn or palm trees whereas for me and you, however, it involves laying on anything we can find that remotely resembles a sun lounger and positioning it carefully on our balcony/patio/front step.
Getting all dressed up has definitely taken on a new meaning since the beginning of the pandemic, and it's time to extend that to our swimwear options too. Also, it just so happens that the high street's swimwear offering is the best we've seen in years, and brands such as H&M and Zara have been creating expensive-looking clean-lined styles that could easily be mistaken for designer iterations. Keep scrolling to see and shop the high-street swimwear buys that were made for back garden sunbathing.
