We're a fan already.
Disrupting the stigma attached to the modeling world, Kelly Horrigan is a modern Irish beauty brimming with substance and ambition - get it, chica!
In the haze of crazy, busy work schedules juxtaposed with the upkeep of social media and your personal life it’s tricky to maintain balance...although, Kelly seems to have found the sweet spot. Between healthy habits, drive and industry wisdom which includes the understanding that successful careers aren’t established overnight proves that Kelly is one to watch, but also one to take notes from.
Despite the world sporting quite a competitive edge nowadays, Kelly reminds us it is not an excuse to discount our dreams. We are so accustomed to instantaneity and having everything at the touch of a button - I am looking at you ‘Next-Day Delivery’ - we lose patience and faith in the process.
Remembering that good things come to those who wait, we secured five minutes with Kelly to discuss career, fashion, and the mince pie debate (how festive of us).
How do you stay motivated with your health and career?
Staying motivated in terms of health for me is about balance. I eat what I like in moderation and make up the rest with good food but like everyone, I have good and bad weeks! When I need some motivation, I look up food hashtags on Instagram for inspiration.
Motivation with work is easy because I adore my job. I don't ever feel like I need to 'motivate' myself for work because I love it.
Can you debunk one myth about the modeling world?
Lots of people modeling as a bitchy job where girls are nasty and jealous of each other which is totally untrue! Some of my best friends are girls I've met through modeling and will be friends for life. We celebrate each other and are always happy for one another’s successes!
Best stress reliever?
Reading. I love switching off and getting lost in a good book. Add a cuppa in there and we're laughing!
If you weren’t modeling, what would you do?
I would love to be in this kind of industry forever so if I wasn't modeling I would hope to make the transition into television presenting or something of that nature. I've been in this line of work for almost ten years, so it's in my blood at this stage!
If I was to leave this industry altogether I think I would be an emergency dispatcher. I love tv shows like, 999: What’s Your Emergency?, those people are amazing!
Which designer’s runway show would you love to walk for?
The Chanel shows are iconic and not just because of the clothes. The productions are theatrical and somehow get better and better every season. One of my favourite parts of my job is seeing an idea come together so I would love to be apart of something that huge.
Your skin is incredible, do you have a holy grail product?
My AHA peel by The Ordinary is my favourite product to unleash amazing skin before big jobs. It’s an exfoliator that instantly makes your skin look glowy and fabulous! Having good skin is such an important part of my job so I had a skincare regime created for me by The Skin Nerd and I stick to it religiously! Good food and lots of water are essential too.
How did you develop your Instagram page as a brand for work?
I rarely post-work pictures on my Instagram feed, I prefer to post pictures of my own personal outfits because that way it's more fun and authentic. Of course, I post day-to-day work bits and bobs on my story but I like to keep my feed more about my own style etc., which is how my following grew I think. I never tried to gain followers and I still don't, I just post when I feel like it. I take photos for a living so I don't want Instagram to stop being a fun thing for me.
What personal trait can you attribute to reaching your level of success?
Patience. I've slowly been growing as a model for over nine years and I'm so happy with where I'm at right now. I never bothered comparing myself to other girls or people in the industry. I just let my career play out the way it's supposed to.
Can you share a valuable style secret you picked up from working with fashion?
Less is more. The best outfits are always the ones you put the least amount of effort into. The same goes for makeup I think. It's all personal preference but I'm all about minimalism.
What are you hoping to manifest in 2020?
Every year my career has grown a little and I've done more and more than the year before and that is all I can ask for. I'm so happy with how everything is progressing for me at the moment so anything extra is a bonus!
Mince pies: take or toss?
Toss! To be quite honest, I don't think I've ever actually tried one but they don't look like my cup of tea.
