The Surprising Fashion Trend That Islanders, Influencers & Our Editors Can't Stop Wearing

Should we just skip winter?

Got milk? Sorry, I'll see myself out

Brace yourself because it seems that the fashion pack are - and therefore we will be - are all dressing like milkmaids in 2020.

A close relation to both the prairie and ultra-fem movements, the milkmaid aesthetic has all the details you’d expect, square necklines; puffy sleeves; shirred detail; floral prints. The look can be taken literally, paired with a milk pail-like basket and some sturdy boots, though, a beaded bag and pair of 'ugly sandals' are advised.

It has been noted that the success of the milkmaid look has arrived just at the moment it's never been trendier to go dairy-free, and that irony is not lost on us. Nevertheless, whilst your daily coffee order might be farmyard free, your wardrobe doesn't have to be too.

Thanks to fashion pack honouré like Holly Willoughby, Monikh and Our editor, the ultra-feminine, ultra-soft look is replacing the menswear-inspired trends of seasons past. Now, it's all about looking like you just stumbled in from an afternoon of milking cows in the fields.

Too set in your nut milk ways to understand? Let us guide you below...

For Puff Sake

When trying out a new trend, it's best to stick to the basics. Opt for a more subtlely puffed sleeve in a neutral colour to show your brave enough to try something new. Think of it like dipping your toe in the sea before you dive in.

Crop It Like It's Hot

Granted, it's winter and freezing so getting your midriff out might seem like the worst possible idea. Unless you pair with a high waisted jean and that right there is the very definition of 'jeans and a nice top'.

Hole Hearted

Nice to see you again broderie anglaise, it's been a minute. Usually, if your clothes are covered in holes, it's not a good look but when it comes to rocking the milkmaid trend, it's key. Pair with a pair of denim mom jeans and loafer for a look that screams Summer casual.

Because milkmaids get to dress up too. Whether it's a night out, wedding or special event, wear a statement sleeve dress. This black number from Topshop is the perfect blend of dressy casual for when you're not too sure what the dress code may be. Pair with a mid-heel court and statement earrings.

Villa Maura

Since Francesca Allen entered the Love Island, she’s being heralded as the villa’s new style queen. But one particular outfit that caught the eye of viewers, and our editor, was the ditsy floral print black dress she was wearing when Curtis Pritchard ended things with her on Monday. If you’re going to be dumped, then at least do it ála milkmaids.
