I Finally Went To See Little Women And Now I Want To Dress Like A March Sister

I mean, the costumes were nominated for an Oscar...

Bonus points for braided hair too.

The wholesome, prairie dress trend is sometimes a difficult one to pull-off – all ruffled layers, floral prints, and high necklines – and for the past several seasons, the part-Western part-Victorian frock has been retired to that of Halloween costumes and grannies' wardrobes.

But, as per the cyclical nature of fashion and to coincide with Greta Gerwig's adaption of the Louisa May Alcott classic, the demure prairie dress trend has been reimagined.

Starring Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet, plus Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, and Emma Watson, without even seeing first photographs of the upcoming film, you know the sartorial standards are going to be super high.

We're predicting the sales of long-sleeved, high-necked and slightly bohemian and romantic-style dresses to skyrocket in advance of the movie's release date in December, and we'll be looking to brands like Batsheva, Faithfull The Brand and LoveShackFancy (and their highstreet equivalents) for shopping inspiration  – all of whom are riffing on a similar aesthetic.

If the idea of dressing like a character in a period drama breaks you in out hives though, please be assured that everyone can go a little Evangelical – it just requires a little styling finesse. Think chunky boots and contemporary accessories.
