The full collection drops at 6pm tonight.
What's the one thing you miss most about life before restrictions? For some it's meeting up with friends over brunch, others are longing for the day they get to go on holiday but for me, the thing I miss most (sorry, mam) is rifling through the racks of vintage stores. There's just nothing quite like happening upon fashion treasure tucked away behind busy floral shirts and pre-loved fur coats.
Dublin – and Ireland in general – has no shortage of great charity shops and even greater vintage stores. But as of March 20 2020, non-essential stores all over Ireland closed their doors due to COVID-19. This meant the small, independent vintage stores had to cease trading with no idea how or if they'd back. Since then, businesses have been opened, closed, opened for collection only, and re-closed entirely after a string of restrictions that were implemented by the government to control the virus.
But much like restaurant and hospitality industry, lockdown has given deserved airtime to independent sellers, and interest in vintage clothing and accessories a as whole as spiked. These small vintage stores that previously relied on footfall have been able to utilise the resale apps and websites, much to the delight of vintage obsessives like myself who are missing their weekly market rummages and charity shop hauls.
One such store that has been providing me with vintage shopping escapism has been rêverie. Launched in November of last year, rêverie is a small, Irish-owned, female-led business that offers eclectic and rare, designer and vintage finds, each carefully and ethically sourced from around the globe. Initially launching two weeks ago, their first collection sold out within just a few hours with their second drop sell out just as quickly. Today, April 22, at 6 pm, rêverie is set to drop their spring collection – and we've been given an exclusive sneak peek.
Founded by Emma Fraser, owner & founder of NotAnother Agency and Nine Crows, rêverie is said to be representative of Emma’s personal style after twelve years in the business of selling vintage – essentially, the evolution of the Nine Crows customer. Think oversized blazers, crisp white shirts, luxury leather and Levi's jeans.
rêverie stocks pieces for the modern vintage lover, pieces that can be mixed and matched, upcycled and mended, and most importantly, worn time and time again. What sets rêverie apart however is their beautiful collection of vintage, unworn lingerie. Perfect for wearing under a blazer or over a crisp white shirt, lingerie is one of the harder areas of fashion to source sustainably.
Dropping at 6pm, rêverie’s new spring edition is sure to be a sell-out. Ahead, Katie-Ruby Robinson rêverie's Creative Director and stylist for their new campaign, has given IRISH TATLER a sneak preview into the collection ahead of its official launch later today. Be sure to set an alarm for 6pm tonight as once rêverie sells out, they go incognito until their next drop.
