I say as someone who's wardrobe is 99% leopard print...
There's no denying the appeal of leopard print – it's bold, daring and makes a statement all by itself – and over the past few seasons, it's shaken off its dated Pat Butcher connotations and infiltrated the mainstream.
But as we pack up those summer dresses we never actually got to wear, we're beginning to focus on the new season.
And if the Spring/Summer catwalks are anything to go off, next season is all about thinking outside the leopard print box and into a tortoise shaped box.
Tortoiseshell is a classic pattern marked by its neutral colouration and a patch-worked array of various tones of brown and taupe. We’re used to seeing tortoise motifs in eyewear but this season, we’re making the case for extending the timeless decorative design beyond its prevailing appearance in eyewear and into new territories.
Pinterest actually named this sophisticated print as one of the biggest fashion trends of 2019 after the company recorded a 679% increase in searches for "tortoiseshell earrings" since the beginning of the year...and you can expect that number to rise.
Since then, tortoiseshell earrings, sunglasses, hairclips shoes, and even handbags have been populating some of our favourite high-street and luxury labels. Cult brand Celine has been delivering this print exceptionally well, and you can find some great pieces from Topshop, Zara, and & New Look, too.
Ahead, a few of our favourite tortoiseshell accessories on the market right now—and yes, they look just as great combined with each other as they do combined with everything else in your wardrobe.
