How Zalando Is Putting The 'Able' In 'Sustainable'

Breaking down sustainable + environmentally-conscious fashion, step by step

The fashion platform is on a mission to make shopping environmentally-conscious fashion less challenging for consumers to navigate by breaking it down, step by step.

Despite sustainability becoming one of the fashion industry's biggest conversations and priorities in recent years, discovering and shopping smaller, more sustainably-minded brands can still be headache-inducing.

Without proper regulation or a one-size-fits-all certification, lines have now blurred around the language we use to talk about fashion's environmental impact; making 'sustainable' a veritable catchall term that references so many different things. Not to mention the fact that almost any brand can earn the right to use the term in its marketing materials, with minimal eco-efforts being made.

While many people want to be more conscious with their consumption, they also wish it were easier to cut through the noise and tell which brands are truly being kind to people and planet.

Enter Zalando's 'Small steps. Big Impact' campaign.

Small Steps. Big Impact. by Zalando

Aiming to encourage customers and the industry alike to take small, easy and actionable steps towards sustainability, 'Small Steps. Big Impact' is all about transforming sustainable shopping from an endeavour to an adventure.

Zalando has chosen eight European brands based on their values around sustainability, to bring to life a capsule collection that guides consumers to make more sustainable decisions when it comes to fashion, without compromising on style. Closed, Designer’s Remix, Henrik Vibskov, Holzweiler, House of Dagmar, Mother of Pearl, Mykke Hofmann and Progetto Quid have all contributed to the 116-piece offering.

With a focus on using sustainably sourced materials, the collection is – like all good capsules should be – full of elevated essentials that form a strong base for a timeless, lasting wardrobe.

Speaking on the campaign, Kate Heiny, Director Sustainability at Zalando commented;

“In the past few years, we have come a long way in providing greater transparency to identify more sustainable clothing. We want to make shopping sustainable fashion easy, enjoyable and provide the inspiration and information customers are looking for, all in one place.”
