Zara Timeless Collection Feels V Old Celine

Still in post-Phoebe Philo mourning mode?

Trend-led fashion is Zara's bread and butter, and while it's arguably the best on the high street for statement pieces, it might not be your first port of call if you favour a more minimal aesthetic.

If the latter is true, then you are what we, in the fashion world, might call an Old Celine fan. Back when Phoebe Philo was at the French brand's helm, it was synonymous with languid tailoring, tonal colour blocking and an air of relaxed luxury. The designer label's aesthetic changed dramatically when Hedi Slimane took over as the head designer last year and the fashion world was up in arms.

Zara must have heard the tearful cries of devout Old Celine fans though, because the Spanish retail giant has just launched a 'Timeless Collection', full of pieces straight out of the Phoebe Philo school of dressing.

With linen as a core fabric of the collection, the styling is much more sophisticated and expensive-looking than that of their Dress Time or TRF edits – think vest tops, high-waisted trousers, strappy flat sandals and knotted oversized blouses, all in soft, neutral shades.

Personal highlights include muted coral Bermuda shorts and matching long-line blazer, satin cargo pants and the most perfect black leather sandals.
