If You Thought Winged Eyeliner Was Hard, Prepare Yourself For This New Liner Trend

Clear your schedule, you've got tutorials to watch.
lines so sharp they could cut glass

The floating eyeliner trend is nothing new to the beauty world. Originally a style made iconic by supermodel Twiggy in the 1960s, the style has now resurfaced and is set to be the makeup trend of the summer.

Quirky enough - it's perfect for the festival season ahead although the sheer idea of creating this look whilst sat in a stuffy tent with a compact mirror and eyeliner in hand sounds ludicrous. Chic enough - it's the perfect accessory for a night out.

The 60s liner trend has slowly but surely been building towards a resurgence ever since Lucy Boynton wore the look at this year's SAG awards.

Now, floating eyeliner has reached Instagram with makeup artists and beauty bloggers hitting the refresh button on the once vintage style. The iterations sweeping Instagram now are fresh, modern and wonderfully minimal - a refreshing change to heavily blended eye looks typical to Instagram.

While it may seem like an art form exclusive to professionals, the secret to achieving the graphic liner trend is in how you position your head. Similar to the pose your older sister taught you during your teenage disco phase, chin up - eyes down. Draw it to high and you've found a cheaper alternative to botox, draw it too low and well, that's just a cat eye.

Below, is all the inspiration you need to master the floating liner trend.

Top tip: use a lightly coloured kohl pencil to trace your outline, once perfected - trace over with a felt tip liner.
