Because delicious is always in season

Treat yourself

The days when Irish food-lovers had to travel to Paris or Florence for a gourmet getaway are long gone. Artisan food production is on the increase and world-class home-grown culinary talent can now be found the length and breadth of the country.

While you probably associate counties like Dublin, Cork and Galway with being home to some of the best food in the world, there's a whole host of destinations enchanted by scenery, culinary arts, history, and more - that you've definitely been neglecting.

One of those is Donegal’s only five-star hotel, Lough Eske Castle. Just this week, the luxury location launched their new “Midweek Gourmet Getaway” to tempt you to dine in the North West this summer. Designed with foodies in mind, the package begins with a Floral Afternoon Tea for two in one of the castles regal drawing rooms, and features savoury delights such as beef pastrami, pickled cucumber and horseradish focaccia sandwiches, and mouth-watering sweet treats such as Orange Blossom financiers, Hibiscus panna cotta, blackberry and violet gel, and traditional house-made scones with Irish clotted cream and strawberry jam complemented by a tea of choice.

Then, dive into the newly launched summer menu at Lough Eske Castle with a three-course menu. New additions to the menu include dishes such as Donegal crab with apple, avocado and green goddess dressing begin and roast Irish rump of lamb, sweet bread, artichoke, pea, hazelnut and mint. Finish up with a decadent dessert. Our choice? The signature strawberry, vanilla and pistachio macaron.

Ensuring to nail each part of a foodie getaway, the castle recently welcomed two new award-winning chefs, Andrew and Richard McKee, who have introduced local, fresh and seasonal produce with a Nordic-Asian flare to the kitchen.

The Midweek Gourmet Getaway includes:

  • Two nights' accommodation with full Irish breakfast each morning
  • A sumptuous three-course dinner in Cedars Restaurant on one evening
  • Traditional Afternoon Tea for Two people on one afternoon
  • Complimentary use of swimming pool and fitness room at the Spa
  • 20% discount on all spa treatments of 60 minutes or more

Prices start from €499 in a Courtyard Guestroom, midweek (Sun – Thurs) and you can book through the Lough Eske website

Whether it is standing on the tallest sea cliffs in Europe - Sliabh Liag, exploring the 19th-century Glenveagh Castle nestled in the majestic Glenveagh National Park or simply eating there is so much to see and do in the hotel renowned for redefining the meaning of luxury in the North-West of Ireland.
