That raspy voice, the immaculately wispy fringe, the soul-baring wit; Joni Mitchell represents haute hippie at its best. As if we couldn’t love Hedi Slimane anymore, he has channelled hot-right-now era, the seventies, by introducing the folk singer as the new face of Saint Laurent Paris. Continuing with the tradition of featuring musicians in his campaigns, Slimane has previously shot icons Marianne Faithfull, Kim Gordon, Chuck Berry and Courtney Love for the brand synonymous with fashion’s most chic of comrades. The announcement arrives only days after Céline unveiled its newest campaign with octogenarian author Joan Didion as its star. Joni’s signature look is embodied in a not-so-humble embroidered folk tunic, a signature wide-brimmed fedora and a leather cape as she strums her acoustic guitar, looking effortlessly cool. As the 71 year old, Grammy award-winning singer was one of the defining voices of the 1970s, this is even more proof that the resurgence of the decade is well and truly exploding into the mainstream consciousness.
