It was a runaway success earlier this year and now the woman behind the show has landed on the Radio Times 100 2018 power list.

Lisa McGee, the writer and creator of Derry Girls, ranks at 11th place on the list, which highlights people in the industry who have had a stellar year. Which is most definitely true of Lisa!

The comedy drama aired earlier this year and won wide acclaim for its funny and heartfelt portray of a group of young friends in 1990s Derry. It was the single most watched TV programme in Northern Ireland history and was Channel 4’s most watched comedy for almost 15 years.

No stranger to successful television, Lisa also created the much-loved RTE show, Raw, starring Charlene McKenna, wrote supernatural BBC drama Being Human (which starred Aidan Turner) and created Chanel 4 comedy, London Irish.

McGee is not the only Irish woman to appear on the list; writer and actor Sharon Horgan clocks in at number 54 and Irish-Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan follws at number 55.

There’s good news for fans of the show – a second series of Derry Girls was comissioned and it looks like filming is already under way!
