Netflix was once typically secretive about its viewing data.
However, in recent months – and due, presumably, to an almost total monopolising of the market – it has begun to release select information on some of its most popular premieres.
According to the streamer, and as read in a statement provided to Entertainment Weekly, a view only counts “once a view surpasses 70 per cent of the total running time, including credits,” meaning that those who viewed only a portion of the movie before stopping do not have their views count.
Additionally, any subsequent views of the film or series from the same account do not count.

Unbelievable and When They See Us have quickly shown there’s a big audience for hard-hitting dramas dealing with issues that are both sensitive and topical.
Unbelievable, a TV show, based on a ProPublica story and a 'This American Life' episode, exploring multiple sexual assault investigations that ultimately intersect; When They See Us, a harrowing depiction of the wrongly accused Central Park Five case.
November's new content is far more light-hearted and binge-able. Perhaps colder nights and darker evenings are less conducive to true crime and police interrogations?
