8 Oscar-Nominated Movies You Can Watch On Netflix Right Now

Oscars and chill

In 2014, Netflix scored its first-ever Oscar nomination. Six years later, the streaming service is leading the field in total nominations.

It’s officially awards season, which means everything that’s happening now all comes down to the Academy Awards on February 9. Every awkward red carpet interview, every drunken Golden Globes speech, every time Margaret Qualley gives Lucy Boynton a run for her money for red carpet goddess – it all leads to the Academy Awards.

If, like me, you are the type of person who likes to see every Oscar-nominated movie in the cinema before the Academy Awards, then this time of year is not only busy but expensive too. And while the Oscars continues to be disappointingly predictable, this year something quite exciting is happening. No, the Academy hasn't suddenly recognised women as being directors. Instead, this year this first time there's been a whole host of Oscar-nominated movies streaming on Netflix.

Movies released by Netflix earned 24 nominations this year, nearly doubling its all-time total. Leading the way for the company this year are The Irishman and Marriage Story, which earned 10 and 6 nominations, respectively—including best picture nods for both. In addition to its two best picture nominations, the haul from Netflix reached virtually every category, from acting (where it received seven nominations) to writing to visual effects.

For all the people who host Oscar parties every year or sit alone and yell at the TV with an entire pizza in their laps, rejoice in the fact that you can now stop begging your friends, S.O. and pets to come with you to the cinema so you can watch everything from a period drama like Little Women to a satirical film about Nazi Germany like Jojo Rabbit. Instead, you can watch them all from the comfort of your own home. Keep scrolling for where you can stream 2020 Oscar-nominated movies using Netflix.
