Escaping for a long weekend or a few days away can be a sanity saver in the run up to Christmas. Colder spots might first come to mind – Prague, Berlin etc, for the festive-feels on your short break.

However, according to Airbnb’s latest stats, an Italian town will see the most Irish guests between now and Christmas. Top of the list for Irish travellers? Naples, Italy.

Between now and the middle of December Naples will see 159 per cent growth of Irish guests’ arrival. With scenic, winding streets and that famed Neapolitian cuisine, there are many reasons to go – but it seems the Christmas markets in the traditional San Gregorio Armeno quarter are worth making the trip for too.

Not interested in Italy? Number two on the Airbnb list is, Lapland’s capital Rovaniemi. No surprise there, giving its connection with a certain Mr Claus, while the beautiful town of Bath in England rounded up the top three spots.
