Deceit, Trump-Bashing and Extreme Wealth: Everything You Need To Know About Netflix's The Politician

On Thursday, Netflix released first look images of Ryan Murphy's highly anticipated eight-part comedy series The Politician.

The plot – although almost entirely under wraps – is supposedly a tongue-in-cheek study of how a President of the United States – or, indeed, any politician – comes into power.

In it, Tony-winner Ben Platt, who stars as Payton Hobart, has known since age seven that he's going to be President of the United States.

But first, he'll have to navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School.

To get elected as Student Body President, secure a spot at Harvard, and stay on his singular path to success, Payton will have to outsmart his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality and carefully crafted image.

Appearing as his adopted mother? None other than Academy-Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow.

Meanwhile, the likes of Lucy Boynton and Zoey Deutch take a turn as his ruthless classmates, with Bette Midler set to guest star in an as yet unknown role.

Full of comedy and sly satire, Ryan Murphy's The Politician offers a rare glimpse into just what it takes to make a politician.

Murphy, the genius behind GleeAmerican Crime Story, and Pose, is set to direct The Politician, with his long-term collaborator Brad Falchuk due to executive produce with him. (Paltrow credits husband Falchuk with convincing her to go back into acting.)

It’s also been confirmed that the brilliant Janet Mock, a writer and guest director on Pose, has directed a single episode.

The 10-part series launches in full on September 27 only on Netflix.
