It was nearly impossible to get tickets for the stage adaptation of Asking For It last year, with sell-out performances in both Dublin and Cork. It's set to return to both cities in 2019, with performances in Cork's Everyman Theater and Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre later this year.
Written by Louise O'Neill and adapted by Meadhbh McHugh in collaboration with Annabelle Comyn, Asking for It takes a powerful look at rape culture, sexual consent, and victim shaming. It centres on the story of a young Irish woman, Emma O’Donovan, whose life is changed by an act of violence. The play recently won the Audience Choice Award at The Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards for 2018.

Commenting on the award, O’Neill said: "It has been a great honour to see Asking for It brought to life with such energy, imagination, and innovation... I hope [it] will continue to win the hearts of audiences all over Ireland, and start many more vital conversations about sexual violence in this country."
Asking for It will be at The Everyman, Cork from 27 September – 5 October and The Gaiety Theatre from 9 – 26 October 2019. Cork tickets are on sale here and Dublin tickets go on sale on 5 April.
