The Great British Bake Off Has Found A New Co-Host

Comedian Matt Lucas, best known for his role in Little Britain, has been announced as the new co-host for the 2020 season of The Great British Bake Off.

The comedian will join Noel Fielding, Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood in the tent this summer.

Matt Lucas is set to take over the position from comedian Sandi Toksvig who, alongside Noel Fielding, has hosted the show since 2016 after Love Productions sold the format to Channel 4 in a reported £75 million pound deal. Until 2016, the show had aired on the BBC with comedians Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc hosting, while Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood judged the bakes.

Paul was the only team member to stick with Bake Off, which caused worry amongst fans, but since being joined by Prue, Sandi and Noel, the show has continued to please audiences, with an around 7.5 million people reported to have tuned into the 2018 finale.

Noel and Sandi had become a winning pair on Bake Off, providing the baker with support and just the right amount of humour. Due to the duo's success, it came as a shock for fans to hear that Sandi was planning to leave the GBBO team after the Stand Up To Cancer celebrity special of Bake Off, the first episode of which aired on Channel 4 last night, March 10th.

In a statement about his appointment, Lucas revealed that he's delighted to be joining the team. "I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television. I can’t wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers. And bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!”
