Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren't letting their newfound proximity to Hollywood go to waste. The couple has just signed a landmark, multi-year deal with Netflix to produce a wide variety of content.
Per The New York Times, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have founded a currently unnamed production company and have signed a multiyear deal with Netflix. As part of the deal, the Sussexes are set to produce docuseries, feature films, scripted shows, and children's programming for the streaming platform, highlighting similar issues and themes that will be reflected through their nonprofit organization, Archewell. There are already several projects in the works including an innovative nature docuseries and an animated series that celebrates inspiring women. The Netflix deal comes six months after the royal couple's decision to step down as senior working members of the royal family.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” the couple said in a statement, via the Times. “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us.” They added that Netflix’s “unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.” The terms of their deal have not been disclosed, but the outlet reports Harry and Meghan could appear on-camera for certain projects. That said, it’s unlikely we’ll see Meghan return to acting – a representative of the couple said the former Suits actor currently has “no plans” to go back to her acting career.
This, of course, is neither Meghan nor Harry's first venture into the land of streaming. In March, it was revealed that Meghan narrated the Disney+ wildlife documentary Elephant, and last month, Harry appeared in the Netflix documentary Rising Phoenix, which highlights the stories of Paralympic athletes.
In their decision to launch a production company and sign a deal with Netflix, Harry and Meghan will be following in the footsteps of Barack and Michelle Obama, who took the same move after leaving the White House.
