Niacinamide: Skincare's New Wonder Ingredient

There's pretty much no skin-woe this wonder ingredient won't help...
Not quite the \'Elixir of Youth\', but not far off.

So, why are we learning about the multi-tasker now?

Niacinamide, the wonder ingredient helps skin retain moisture, fade dark spots, soften fine lines and wrinkles, correct redness, combat dullness, calms acne and even minimize the appearance of pores.

WHAT IS IT?

Niacinamide is a form of restoring vitamin B3 that helps to create ceramides, natural lipids that allow the skin to retain moisture, improves uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, and helps maintain skin's moisture barrier protection. It also benefits patients with hyperpigmentation and – because it's non-irritating and anti-inflammatory – it has also been shown to calm acne flareups.

SUITABLE FOR?

All kinds really. Unlike other active brightening ingredients which can be particularly irritating for those with sensitive skin, niacinamide is favoured for its ability to act as a calming agent while it brightens. Effective in treating early signs of skin ageing, it can be recommended to even the youngest patients who are concerned with pigmentation and skin tone issues.

WHEN SHOULD IT BE USED?

Depending on its carrier formula (usually serum), niacinamide can be applied once or twice daily after cleansing, before your favourite moisturizer or peptide. It can equally be used mixed into your moisturiser of choice. If using Niacinamide, it's best to avoid acidic skin care ingredients such as AHAs/BHAs and Vitamin C - they can break down Niacinamide into another ingredient called Niacin, which can cause skin redness and flushing.

DO WE NEED IT?

In a world where the ability to multitask is crucial to just about every aspect of our lives, this is genuinely an all-rounder! As much as we love complicated, bespoke and targeted skincare routines, we can equally appreciate an ingredient that addresses multiple complexion concerns in one step.
