The Spice Girls' Tour Costumes Were Made By a Limerick Man

"I will never forget this experience and I am so proud to be a part of something so ICONIC."

Friday saw four out of five Spice Girls take on Croke Park.

Mel C, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner lifted Dublin to never-seen-before heights as an 80,000-strong crowd relived memories not felt since Italia '90.

The foursome seemingly put on an exquisite and contemporary show – despite reports of sound issues – while also nodding gratuitously to the era from whence they came.

As for their many costume changes, which were thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd, the entertainers can thank an Irish designer, who rallied an impressive team together to create bespoke looks for their opening number.

In the opening night of their first tour in over a decade – and their first jaunt to Ireland in over seven years – Limerick-native Derek Anthony Purcell recreated the looks synonymous with their personalities, except this time, resplendent with sparkle.

Purcell, who is the creative director of the brand Bang London, created a bespoke regal gown for Geri Horner – an updated take of her famous Union Jack dress that spanned a thousand costume shops.

Emma Bunton was dressed in her signature colour – pink, while Mel B was decked out in full leopard print. Naturally.

And, Mel C's opening ensemble was a futuristic style crop top with matching trousers, armbands, and trainers, embodying her former Sporty Spice alter ego.

Derek shared a photo of the group wearing his designs on Bang London’s social media after the gig, thanking everyone individually for their hard work, including the Spice Girls themselves:

"Having worked with each of you personally I can say you are four of the most amazing women I have ever met true ICONS with respect and love for everyone on their team. I will never forget this experience and I am so proud to be a part of something so ICONIC."

Some of his former clients include everyone from Kate Moss to Beyoncé, to Zara Larsson.
